Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

CenRes ("we", "us") is a community resilience and security information hub for Valhalla / Centurion, South Africa. This policy explains how we handle personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

2. Information we process

• Location — only when you tap Locate, SOS, or set your address. We do not track you continuously or in the background.
• Incident reports — category, location and description you submit.
• Family Circle — your name and check-in status. This is end-to-end encrypted (PBKDF2 → AES-256-GCM) before it leaves your device; we cannot read it.
• Device storage — reports, preferences and family credentials stored on your device (localStorage / IndexedDB).

3. How we use it

To show incidents on the map, let neighbours confirm reports, power the Family Circle check-ins, and connect you to local businesses. We do not sell personal information, and we do not build advertising profiles.

4. Third-party services

The following processors may receive technical data (e.g. IP address) needed to operate the app:

• Map tiles — CARTO basemaps
• Address lookup — OpenStreetMap Nominatim
• Fonts & libraries — MapLibre, Font Awesome, Google Fonts (CDN)

Family Circle sync data is encrypted before transmission; the sync server stores ciphertext only.

5. Security & retention

Data is stored on your device. Family Circle data is AES-256-GCM encrypted and held only as ciphertext. Incident reports remain on-device in the current prototype. You can clear all data at any time by clearing the app's site data in your browser.

6. Your rights (POPIA)

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below. We will respond within POPIA timeframes.

7. Children

CenRes is not directed at children under 18. A parent or guardian must provide consent for any minor's use of the Family Circle feature.
